Braised Cabbage

This simple preparation requires the following ingredients:

1 Head of cabbage, either green or red, sliced very thin.

1 Medium onion, sliced very thin.

1 Apple, peeled, cored and grated just before using.

½ C Either Water, Vegetable, Chicken Stock, Red or White Wine Vinegar, Apple Cider

2 Tbsp. Butter, vegetable oil or clarified butter.




To prepare:

  • In a large pan heat the butter or oil over medium heat.

  • Add the sliced onions and cook until soft, about five minutes.

  • Add the cabbage, cooking liquid (water, stock or wine) and season with salt and pepper.

  • Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

  • Remove cover, add the grated apple and simmer another five minutes.

Serves 4
